We live in a world where many of us would like to be able to read a lot more often than we actually do. After all, there are so many distractions coming at us from our phones to our personal lives, that it’s easy to make excuses as to why we don’t have time to read as much as we’d like. Usually, it comes down to a question of making it a priority.
Reading can significantly enrich your life and expand your experience as a human. Not to mention it can help you through hard times since you can often identify with the stories that you’re reading about. If you’re looking for more ways to put reading into your schedule, then here are some tips to get you started.
Set Goals
It helps to set goals anytime you’re setting out to do something. Of course, your goals will depend on your lifestyle. If you live in an assisted living facility, then you’re probably going to have more time to commit to reading than someone who’s getting a master’s degree in law.
Set realistic goals that will suit your schedule and personal life. Perhaps a great way to get started is by using apps that track your progress. You can set daily or even weekly targets and decide how much time you want to commit each day to reading. Even as little as 10 to 15 minutes a day can make a difference in improving your mental well-being and expanding your knowledge. Just make sure that you track your progress so that you’re inspired to keep going.
Create a Routine
Any time you want to make something a habit, it helps to make it a routine. In other words, try to find a ritual that includes reading in your daily habits. For some people that may mean reading right before bed, while for other people it may be a little slice of thyme in the afternoon right it all depends on when you think you’d have the time to read for an uninterrupted period of time.
Try to start small, and increase your reading routine as you get more involved in your book the more ingrained reading becomes in your life, the less of a chore it will feel like to spend time reading. In fact, you’ll look forward to your reading sessions more than you think!
Choose Books You Like
Choosing books that actually interest you will motivate you to read even more. Try to find stories that motivate and interest you and you’ll be so excited to pick up your book again that you can hardly imagine putting it down. If you have trouble finding books that interest you, try out a few different genres and once you find one that you like, try and search for books with similar themes.
