Though their workload is already overwhelming, sometimes teachers can feel obligated to take on clubs, coaching positions, committees, conferences, mentoring and other opportunities that may be offered to them outside of the classroom. While these are all sure to be fulfilling, having a lack of time for oneself is detrimental to the ideal work-life balance. Building up the confidence and willingness to say no is imperative in the fight against over-commitment. When teachers are better able to say no and embrace the time they have outside of the classroom as their own, they’re able to dedicate that time to themselves and their families. This time is also what allows teachers to reset and attempt to prepare for the day ahead.
